“If you find yourself plagued by a recurrent worry, train yourself to think of something else.  Your conscious mind can concentrate on only one thought at a time, and driving the negativity away will free you up to move forward again.” - Harvey Mackay

We all have dreams and aspirations.  But what are you doing to make those dreams a reality?  It can be quite a challenge when negativity is present.  So I want to share a few tips on quieting the negativity in your life.

Let’s be honest, there will be enough negativity present when you are trying to achieve your dreams.  You won’t need any help in this area.

One of the hardest things when you are just starting up your small business, beginning your entrepreneur career, or trying anything new is quieting the voice telling you what you can’t do.  Between that voice in your head and the naysayers, you will have enough negativity to face.

When I have faced various challenges in my life, I was only able to achieve my goals when I focused on the positive versus the negative.  The times when I focused on the negative instead the positive, it made it harder to achieve my goal or I failed at reaching my goal.

Think back on the times when you failed to achieve your personal or professional goals.  You will notice, any failures may have occurred because the negativity was louder than your positive energy.

In all actuality, it is much easier to point out the negative in any situation.  Matter of fact, we could probably point out five to ten negatives before we even start to think of one positive.

So how do we change this type of thinking to keep negativity from dominating our lives?  You have to quiet the negativity in your life.  Here are 4 simple ways to quiet the negativity in your life.

1. Call negativity what it is.  There are some people and things in your life that naturally bring out the worst in you.  Do you know who or what it is?  When you discover who or what it is, then call it what it is.

2. Avoid the presence of negativity.  We have heard the adage, “One bad apple spoils the whole bunch.”  This is true when it comes to fruit and people.  One bad word, thought, action, policy, or employee can ruin everything.  Don’t let negativity destroy your goals, dreams, or your life.  Avoid the very presence of negativity because it will bring you down.

3. Turn up your positivity.  There are some negative people and things you will not be able to avoid.  In these situations, what should we do?  We have to be more positive.  This can be the most challenging way of quieting the negativity in your life.  To make this easier, you have to prepare and plan for the negativity that will enter your life.  Yes, I am telling you to have a plan regarding how you will handle negative situations with positive energy when they arise.  It will change your perspective about the negativity in your life.  You won’t waste your time with negativity because you will see it is not worth your time.  You truly have more important things like your goals and dreams that need your focus.

4. Free yourself.  You should never have to justify why you are ridding yourself of anything negative.  It could be your own thoughts, another person’s feelings, or anything else.  If you know for a fact, your life will be better without it.  Get rid of it.  Free yourself of it.  How successful could you be without negativity controlling your life?  The most successful people in the world don’t waste time with negative thoughts, people, or things.  They always find a way to remove the negativity.  You have to do the same, if you would like to be successful.

George Foreman was 76-5 in his boxing career with 68 knockouts.  We tend to remember the losses, but he had a ton of victories.  Much of his success came from his attitude towards negativity.  He said, ““I let negativity roll off me like water off a duck’s back.  If it’s not positive, I didn’t hear it.  If you can overcome that, fights are easy.”

What are you fighting in your life?  What’s holding you back?  How beneficial would it be to quiet the negativity in your life?  How serious are you about being successful?  If you are negative, that is something you will need to work through if you plan on being successful.  If it is anything else, you still will need to work through being more positive and less negative.  Regardless of whether it is you, someone else, or something else; you will need to quiet the negativity in your life.

What would it hurt if you tried a few of these strategies mentioned above?  The only thing stopping you from trying these simple strategies is you.  Get out of your own way and make way for success.  You deserve it.

These are only a few ways to handle the negative noise in your life.  Please share your experience of how you quiet the negativity in your life by leaving a comment below, sending me a tweet on Twitter, or by leaving a comment on Facebook.
