KILL YOUR EXCUSES

KILL YOUR EXCUSES.jpg

What are your plans for 2018?  What excuses have been holding you back from being the a person of success and significance?  Many times these excuses become giants in our lives.

Giants have been around for a long time since the B.C. years.  We have heard many stories involving king giants such as David and Goliath, the Nephilim, Anakim, Og King of Bashan, and the giants of Egypt.  Furthermore, we read many fairy tales and watched movies like Jack and the Beanstalk and Lord of the Rings.

In most cases, giants are depicted as monsters of human appearance with breathtaking size and exceptional strength.

There is one story that stands out in my mind involving a giant, which I previously mentioned being David and Goliath.  We are all familiar with the fact that David defeated Goliath.

This blog isn’t meant to be a Bible study, but there are some details in the story of how David defeated Goliath that can help us deal with killing our excuses.  There are three facts within the David and Goliath story that you should practice that will help you prepare for your future success.

Fact #1 - Master Your Calling

In story of David and Goliath, David was unable to fight with King Saul weapons.  He refused to go to battle with Saul arsenal.  One of the reasons why he refused to use the armor and weapons of Saul was because he had mastered the slingshot.  He was unfamiliar with Saul war tools.  David knew his past victories were accomplished with a sling shot, not a sword.

“Saul put his clothes on David.  He put a bronze helmet on his head and dressed him in armor.  David put on Saul’s sword and tried to walk around, but he was not used to all the armor Saul had put on him.  He said to Saul, ‘I can’t go in this, because I’m not used to it.’  Then David took it all of.  He took his stick in his hand and chose five smooth stones from a stream.  He put them in his shepherd’s bag and grabbed his sling.  Then he went to meet the Philistine.” -1 Samuel 17:38-40

What is your calling?   Are you familiar with your resources that will increase your odds of being successful?  As we start 2018, just know your success is dependent on you knowing your calling.

Fact #2 - Run to Kill Your Excuses

I found it interesting that David rushed towards Goliath the giant in the heat of battle.  David did not waste any time.  He knew his problem and quickly wanted to deal with it.

“As Goliath came near to attack him, David ran quickly to meet him.” -1 Samuel 17:48

We cannot play around with excuses and any other thing or person that may keep us from being an achiever.  The more we allow any of our self-limiting beliefs live, the longer we allow our goals and dreams to stay lifeless.

What do you need to run to kill?  What’s holding you back?  Don’t waste any time.  Seek out the problem and quickly handle it.

Fact #3 - Make Sure Your Excuses will not return

After David hit Goliath in the head with a stone using his sling shot not only did he run towards him, but he also cut Goliath’s head off so he would not return to threaten and destroy him and the children of Israel.

“So David defeated the Philistine with only a sling and a stone.  He hit him and killed him.  He did not even have a sword this hand.  Then David ran and stood beside him.  He took Goliath’s sword out of its holder and killed him by cutting off his head.” -1 Samuel 17:50-51

When we decide to kill our excuses and move forward in life, we have to make sure that our excuses aren’t going to return to haunt us again.  What specific excuse needs for you to cut its head off?  Whatever you do, don’t take that same excuse with you through the entire 2018 year.

David could have made a number of excuses, but he didn’t.  Instead of making excuses, he made a difference.  It's time for you to make a difference.  What needs to happen for you feel a sense of urgency about killing your excuses?  Feel free to leave me a comment below or email me directly.
