4 THINGS YOU SHOULD CHANGE AS A LEADER

“Progress is impossible without change, and those who cannot change their minds cannot change anything.” - George Bernard Shaw

Everyday you can be sure that you will experience change.  Nothing in life stays the same.

From my personal life to my professional life, change has been a constant.  I’ll start off with the obvious.  I am reminded of how fast time is passing when I think about how fast my boys are growing up.  I’m also amazed with the growth of our leadership community.  We started off in the greater Nashville area only, but now our scope expands across over 60 plus countries.  Everything is changing in and around us.

Look at the change in our country from businesses to school systems to politics.  Some change is positive, but some change can be negative.  A good leader is able to distinguish between the two.  Change may not always be positive, but a good leader is able to use change whether positive or negative to fuel their development and the development of others around them.

What is changing in your life?  Are you positively or negatively changing?

Research has proven the impact of change with individual leaders and leading organizations.  Here are a few things you should change that great leaders and leading organizations have changed to be significant and successful.

1.    Change your attitude towards change.  What are thoughts about change?  There are some people who resist change, which is why those people have a hard time discovering significance and success.  Former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Winston Churchill stated, “Attitude is a little thing that makes a big difference”.  It’s all about your attitude.

You have to make change your friend by embracing change if you want more out of life.  Significance and success will be yours when you accept change, which I discuss in my The Power of I.F. (Intentional Focus) - 8 Essentials Words for Living Your Best Life eBook.

2.    Change your accountability infrastructure.  Who holds you accountable when it comes to achieving you life goals and making your dreams a reality?  You should have a team of people whose interest is helping you reach your goals.  You need a system that holds everyone even yourself accountable.

It is easy to say that you have an accountability system, but good leaders set up realistic and reliable resources to help with discovering and building successful solutions.  Whether it is personal or professional, your accountability infrastructure needs to be sound.  If you don’t have a good accountability infrastructure, it may be time for a change.

3.    Change your investments.  What are currently doing to bring about significance and success in your life?  Many great leaders and leading organizations successfully pursue growth strategies to bring about their maximal potential.  You will need to reach beyond yourself in order to reach your highest potential.

The first President of South Africa Nelson Mandela stated, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world”.  Education not only universally changes our world, but it also personally and professionally changes our world.  Continued learning is important to your life’s success.  What are you investing in?

4.    Change your outlook.  American philosopher and motivational speaker Wayne Dyer said, “If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change”.  A change in your perspective is needed if you are going to expand your opportunities to succeed.

The most successful leaders and organizations are able to have a winning perspective.  Even if you are losing, you have to be able to see yourself winning.  Sometimes it is as simple as changing from a losing perspective to winning perspective mentally.

Wherever you are in life, your life will benefit from changing these four things.  What do you need to change with your leadership?  Please leave a comment below, send me a tweet on Twitter, or leave a comment on Facebook.
